Meet The Team

Veterinarians

Veterinarian

Dr. Renee Orange joined the team in January 2020. Originally born in Auckland, New Zealand, she moved to Samoa when she was 13, before coming to Australia in 2020. She wanted to pursue a career in the Veterinary industry as she has always wanted to fix broken or sick animals, having rescued and rehabilitated many chickens when she was younger, much to her mother’s objections! She completed her Bachelor of Veterinary Sciences in 2013 at Massey University, New Zealand. She then began working in Samoa at the Ministry of Agriculture, in the Animal Production and Health Division, before taking on her current role here as a Veterinary Surgeon at the Walwa Vet Practice Pty Ltd. She has a special interest in surgery on both companion and production animals, as well as production animal reproduction, and she is working hard  to improve her knowledge and skill in orthopedic surgeries. Renee divides her time between both of our clinics, commuting several times a week up to Tumbarumba.

At home, Renee has a dog called ‘Barkly’, who came all the way from Tennant Creek, NT after one of her rotations up there. Back home in Samoa, she has 2 dogs called ‘Missy’ and ‘Bear’, who are being looked after by her parents.

When she’s not at work, Renee enjoys reading, being outdoors, good food and sketching.

Renee loves working here because we provide accessible veterinary services to our community and are always happy to get creative and think outside the box.

Veterinarian

Dr Kasey Sherwood joined the team in August, 2022, after graduating with a BVetbio/BVsc in July, 2022.

Kasey grew up in Sydney, and developed a love for all things large animal after spending many family holidays on an alpaca farm in Marulan. The deciding moment when she chose to pursue a veterinary career was after she saw her first “unpacking” – a healthy live birth to an alpaca cria.

In 2014, Kasey moved to Wagga Wagga to start her first degree, a Bachelor of Animal science at CSU. In 2017, Kasey was accepted into veterinary science at James Cook University in Townsville, QLD and in the same year graduated from the Bachelor of Animal Science from CSU.
In 2019, Kasey transferred back to CSU to complete the rest of her veterinary studies. Along the way, she has developed a passion for both small and large animals, as well as having a special interest in exotic animal species. Kasey is interested in small animal soft tissue surgery, endocrinology, ophthalmology as well as large animal internal medicine and surgery.

In her spare time, Dr Kasey hangs out with her Douge de Bordeaux, Duke and her rescue cat, Stout. She enjoys spending time outside, swimming and spending time with loved ones.

Veterinary Nurses & Assistants

Veterinary Nurse

Mahteea, originally from Coolamon NSW, joined the team as a Veterinary Nurse in June 2020. It was a childhood dream of hers to work with animals that led her to completing her Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing in 2015. She worked in a local clinic for 3 ½ years before taking a break and working as a stockperson at a beef feedlot.

She is currently undertaking a Bachelor in Equine Science at Charles Sturt University, and has a special interest in equine nursing.

When she’s not at work, Mahteea can be found competing in campdrafting and stockmans challenges, as well as successfully breaking and training horses, including farrier work. She aspires to one day start her own stock horse stud.

At home, Mahteea has a cat called ‘Junior’, 3 dog’s ‘Buddy’, ‘Limo’ and ‘Stitch’ and 2 x lambs ‘Pudgy’, ‘Lambo.’

Veterinary Nurse

Sarah has been a Veterinary Nurse for 8 years, starting out with us here at the Walwa Veterinary Practice back in 2013. During this time she completed her Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing. In 2016 she moved away and began working at a local Animal Emergency Centre in Wodonga, VIC. She stayed there for 4 years, before returning back to us here at Walwa in April 2021. During her years away, Sarah has completed her Diploma in Emergency and Critical Care, she is also a Registered Veterinary Nurse through the AVNAT Registration Scheme. She divides her time between both the Tumbarumba and Walwa Veterinary Practice.

Sarah has a keen interest in emergency and critical care, as well as patient advocacy and continuing education. She hopes to continue her learning in all aspects of nursing, enjoying working with both large and small animals.

Outside of work, Sarah enjoys riding horses, camping and spending time with her young family, who have recently moved back to the Upper Murray. At home, she has 3 horses and 2 cats named ‘JoJo’ and ‘Dizzy’.

Sarah loves working here because our patients always come first. We have a cohesive team that works closely to achieve best patient outcomes.
